Keys and Me

I locked myself out of my car. This is the second lockout incident for me in less than two months, the first one involving my roommate's bike that I locked and lost the key. In that earlier incident, an out of town guest of my roommate graciously offered to rig the lock with a Bic pen. Two gnarled Bic pens later, we gave up on the pen and our attempt at a criminal life. Today my new accomplice at attempting to rig the lock of my car is my Dad. He even had a tool for it. We tried for about an hour and gave up and called the police. This is why I should marry a locksmith. I don't handle keys well. At our old Santa Fe Building where we worked for 3 years, I probably had the most record for lost key FOBs: I went through five of those. At the new office in Canal Street, I lost two. Come to think of it, I have a problem with the general idea of locks and keys. Because I'm Filipino, doors of most countries are locked for entry for me unless I have a key, the visa. I have a problem with that too. I used to think RFID was not such a good thing. There was an argument I heard on NPR that certain uses of RFID can be unconsitutional, but more and more I think this is the technology for me. Imagine being able to track where everything is by code. Code, that's something I can get behind. Screw the Constitution! Let me find my keys.
