Honey, I'm home.
Have been back a few weeks now. I went home and left home to be home. It's hard to say these things right. As an immigrant I have accepted that there is not enough language to convey the complexity for people like me: people who have left one place for another and forever carry two homes in their hearts. This is the longest I've stayed in the Philippines. Eight weeks. Now it feels like a blur. It seems I should have changed remarkably, significantly, like a grow a second nose or something (hideous, but still). I guess I'm pressing myself hard for epiphany. Ought there be a light bulb moment, a lightpost to mark progress (or degeneration).
Anyway, happy at least to announce that the movie release of one of my favorite books that delves into exactly what I'm talking about here is out in theaters. The movie is entitled "The Namesake" by Jhumpa Lahiri. This is a beautiful book and if you have not read it, now's a good time to do so before watching the film. You would not want to miss on the lyrical and smooth flow of Lahiri's writing. It is a strong voice yet elegant and feminine, harsh but true and sincere. Can't wait to see the movie. Who is with me?
